In oracle-bone and bronze inscriptions, 行 looks like roads meeting at a crossroads. Its earliest meaning was a road or route; from the place where people travel, it naturally developed the meanings “to walk” and “to go.” The modern character compresses that old crossing into six strokes.

It has other readings in words such as 银行 / 銀行, “bank”; here you are learning xíng in its beginner-friendly sense of going and travelling.
